O’Brien & Gere reached out to DN Tanks (formerly Natgun) Concrete Tank Services (CTS) on behalf of Hamilton College, one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, for information regarding the installation of a mixing system in an existing concrete water storage tank located on its campus in Clinton, New York, about 40 minutes east of Syracuse. CTS began working closely with O’Brien & Gere to develop a plan to furnish and install this mixing system in less than two weeks!
O’Brien & Gere and Hamilton College selected a Tideflex Mixing System (TMS) by Red Valve. The Tideflex Mixing System is made up of a manifold and a series of NSF Certified check valves that are virtually maintenance free. The system has been extensively modeled and field-validated to improve water quality by eliminating short-circuiting and achieving complete mixing. A TMS will improve water quality for tanks of various sizes with a single inlet/outlet pipe or separate inlet and outlet pipes.
CTS mobilized in early August and began the installation. The tank could only be taken out of service for the two weeks before classes were scheduled to begin, while campus population was at the lowest level. The CTS team was able to completely install the mixing system by Tuesday evening, August 7. The tank was disinfected and filling commenced on Wednesday, August 8. Because of careful planning and CTS’s highly skilled work force the tank was turned over four days ahead of schedule!
The owner was so pleased with the work performed by CTS that they decided to add an exterior ladder to provide secure, OSHA compliant access to the tank and have the tank exterior aesthetically restored during the remaining time.
Hamilton College will now be enjoying many more maintenance free years with their newly retrofitted tank.
